Current Collections will be the focal point of the 2014 & 2015 St. Petersburg, Florida Science Festival, attended by 25,000+ people and the 2014 Blue Ocean Film Festival. Every hour an estimated 1,100 lbs of trash moves into our waterways. Current Collections is an inquiry based, experiential public art sculpture reflecting this movement using reclaimed and recycled coastal debris.
The sculpture has a 40 foot diameter at the pathways and projects 30 feet into the air forming an interior funneling chamber. The creators of the Current Collections Sculpture are artists and scientists from the Atlanta Collective, Embodied Energy Studio. Members include Dena Light, Mike Wsol and Amandine Drouet.
The St. Petersburg community participated with a large contribution by making hundreds of plastic panel interior components during summer workshops.
