Forty participants from Girls Inc., Pinellas County, learned to turn every day plastic bags and bottles into art. The 9 week art camp conducted by local artist, Raquel Garabeli, coincided with STEM classes that focused on litter prevention and ocean health.
Current Collections held a workshop in July for the Discovery Room Workers of The City of St. Pete Parks & Recreation. During the first two weeks of August, the participants engaged 1100 St. Pete youth to make art panels from plastics they have collected, recycled.
Art works from both groups will be incorporated into the large scale sculpture, Current Collections, debuting at the St. Petersburg Science Festival, October 18, 2014.
